Myth #3: Allergies to flu shots are dangerous

Serious allergic reactions to flu shots are very rare.

Flu vaccines are even safe for those with egg allergies, which was previously the area of largest concern, as some vaccines contain very small amounts of egg protein. The risk of allergies from a flu vaccine is the same as any vaccine: about one in every one million doses will cause a reaction.

If you do have an allergy to a flu shot, you will likely react within a few minutes or a few hours of receiving the shot. Your doctor will be able to quickly and safely treat your allergy.
