Signs of diabetes in men

Men with diabetes usually display the common symptoms, including thirst, unexplained weight loss, and frequent skin or urinary tract infections.

However, even though these symptoms are common and well known, millions of adults with diabetes are unaware they have the disease. If you display any of the early signs of diabetes, talk to your doctor about doing a glucose challenge test to check for the disease.

Children are also able to develop diabetes. Signs of diabetes in children are the same as those in adults.

What to do if you have prediabetes

If you have prediabetes, making lifestyle changes can help you prevent type 2 diabetes.

If you are overweight or obese, losing even a small amount of weight can reduce your risk of developing diabetes, especially if you begin exercising regularly. You can also:

  • Eat a healthy diet that is high in fiber and low in fat
  • Stop smoking
  • Maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels

In addition to making lifestyle changes, it is important to visit your doctor regularly to monitor your health. Your physician will be able to check your blood sugar levels, discuss any new symptoms you experience, and suggest additional steps you can take to prevent type 2 diabetes.
