Risk factors for heart disease in your medical history

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a risk factor for heart disease and other forms of CVD. Along with high cholesterol and diabetes, high blood pressure is known as one of the conventional risk factors for heart disease. Research has shown that conventional risk factors are present in 80 to 90 percent of patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Other medical conditions have also been linked to heart disease, though these tend to accompany one of the conventional risk factors. Different studies have found that prediabetes, sleep apnea, anemia, and depression all increase your risk of developing heart disease. Depression has also been shown to increase the chance that heart disease will prove fatal for men.
