How to Prevent Falls: Learn About Drug Side Effects
It’s important to learn how to prevent falls, especially if you’re a senior. Knowing medication side effects can help you avoid injuries.
Every second of every day, an American age 65 or older falls. The result can be bruises or fractures, broken bones, and even fatalities. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says falls are the top cause of injuries and deaths from injuries among U.S. seniors.
However, falls aren’t inevitable just because you are older. Of course, you may be more apt to fall if you have certain health conditions but, for most people, falling is primarily the result of factors than can be avoided. For example, not getting enough exercise and losing muscle strength can make falls more likely, according to the CDC — and so can some medication side effects.
