Lumo Run - Conclusion
Social sharing
The only option I could find for social sharing on the app was to push data for a specific run to Facebook. If you’re looking for an online group to keep you motivated, you may find the lack of options limiting.
Battery life
The battery life of the Lumo Run is advertised as 20 hours of run tracking or seven days in standby mode. This seemed accurate and maybe a little conservative. I had to charge the device only once in about two weeks of use.
Maps and GPS navigation
Lumo uses your phone or the capabilities of an associated app to provide GPS data. The device doesn’t have GPS capabilities on its own. Although one of the features is the ability to run without your phone, you do so at the expense of having a map and data for your distance and pace.
Fitness tracking
The Lumo Run only tracks running. There are no options for tracking other activities. However, within that rather narrow parameter, the Lumo app provides a robust offering of information to help you up your running game whether you are a novice or a seasoned runner. There are also options for using the device if you are doing a walk/run, so you don’t have to be able to run long distances for the app to provide a benefit. You are given the option to focus on any of the five metrics the device tracks. You’ll be given pre- and post-run exercises to improve the particular metric you’ve chosen to work on, which include short videos demonstrating how to perform the exercise. As you improve, the app suggests increasingly more difficult goals.
Software ease-of-use
The only option for viewing your data is on your iOS smartphone. There isn’t a screen to display information on the device, and viewing the app on a PC isn’t an option. That said, the app works well and provides a comprehensive array of the aforementioned running metrics. You can view trends over time, personal records, and have the opportunity to drill down into the form metrics.
Although I can’t say that I’m now a runner, having the Lumo Run wearable helped me realize that I could be. If you want to give running a try, the Lumo Run can get you started.
