Home remedies for kidney infection

Though many popular home remedies may claim to keep your urinary tract healthy and help mild infections, they are not sufficient for kidney infections.

Cranberry juice, theoretically, contributes to urinary health by preventing bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. However, a review of research found that neither cranberry juice nor supplements were effective at curing UTIs or pyelonephritis. Similarly, there is no evidence that taking vitamin C can do anything to cure a kidney infection.

Studies have found that drinking green tea has antimicrobial effects on E. coli infections. However, researchers caution that even these successful investigations into herbal remedies for UTIs are still preliminary. Similarly, one study found that garlic can help treat kidney disease in rats, but no research has concluded that it helps human kidney infections.

Because problems with the kidneys can cause serious, sometimes life-threatening, complications, using home remedies for pyelonephritis is dangerous. You should always visit your doctor if you have any symptoms of kidney infection.
