Jawbone UP3 Fitness Band
This Jawbone UP3 makes provides easy insight into your overall well-being. It also comes with a built-in coach to help you meet your health and fitness goals.
Overview
Jawbone’s UP3 is the latest offering from one of the most established brands in wearables. The new design is simple and sleek. The tracker does not have a watch face, or much of any display for that matter, making it reliant on having a phone to see your progress and results. There are three itty bitty icons that indicate whether the tracker is in awake, asleep, or stopwatch mode. There is also a notification icon that flashes when you set a reminder.
The UP3 is marketed as a fitness tracker, but unlike other fitness trackers that automatically detect activities like running, biking, elliptical, and aerobic workouts, the UP3 doesn’t automatically track activity other than steps.
The UP3 plays up its heart-rate tracking capabilities based on the theory that “resting heart rate is one of the best indicators of overall heart health.” The device measures your resting heart rate once a day, right before you wake up, and also measures your passive heart rate throughout the day to help you understand “how the habits of your daily life affect your heart.”
The device also boasts advanced sleep tracking that measures your time awake and in REM-, light-, and deep-sleep stages. Although the app does track food, I found the pre-loaded options limited, and trying to enter food manually was incredibly clunky.

Design
The overall design of the band is relatively simple, but it distinguishes itself by having a variety of finishes to choose from for the band’s anodized aluminum face, which comes in several colors with matching wrist bands. The wrist band itself is made of soft, flexible medical-grade rubber, which comes in a single basic design. If you are looking for a tracker that blends in with your style rather than makes a statement of its own, this is a good option. It looks more like a bracelet than a fitness tracker. I got the silver face with gray band, but it also comes in red, teal, black, gold, and navy.
