How is gastroesophageal reflux disease diagnosed?

Your doctor can insert a flexible tub through your nose into your esophagus. It’s called a 24-hour impedance-probe study. The tube detects if the acid is refluxing past your esophagus. Or you can undergo an upper endoscopy, which involves a tube with a camera inserted into your stomach and small intestine. It’s inserted through your mouth, and you will be sedated for this procedure. This, obviously, is more invasive and can help your doctor identify signs of tumors, inflammation, or ulcers in these areas. With this procedure, your doctor can also take tissue samples.
